Design Thinking, A Strategic Approach for Innovation
Introduction
Design Thinking is an integral way of working in some of the world’s leading companies, such as Apple, Google, IBM, Bank of America, and Airbnb. What’s unique about Design Thinking is that it helps practitioners systematically extract, learn, and apply human-centred techniques to solve problems creatively and innovatively.

Design Thinking is a capacity-enhancing skill that equips people to work effectively by cutting through barriers and complexities. Participants will engage in techniques for soliciting and synthesising internal and market intelligence, enhancing creative thinking, testing market acceptance, and structuring the business according to the requirements for business success.
Course Objectives
Participants will experience the Design Thinking methodology and many other success-generating techniques used by global megabrands such as Apple, IBM, and Zappos for product and service innovation. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Appreciate the principles and methodologies in the Design thinking philosophy.
- Lead innovation and enhance their organisation’s innovation capability.
- Learn to ‘sense’ the macro situation, make sense of it, and integrate it into the problem-to-solution phase.
- Ability to leverage available information and resources effectively.
- Ability to organise and screen out complexity caused by information overload, changing consumer behaviours & needs, and technological advancement.
- Articulate the customer problem clearly to generate valuable ideas for the target market.
- Integrate cutting-edge problem-solving and ideation techniques into their work.
- Ability to generate strategic ideas by collaborating with key stakeholders and integrating their voices.
- Ability to better prioritise ideas generated in the ideation session during stage 3 of design thinking.
- Ability to defend the innovation idea because it is aligned with the organisation’s strategy and fulfils the users’ needs.
- Apply a design-led strategy to communicate innovation and gain stakeholder support.
Methodology
The training is highly interactive as participants will test their newly acquired skills during the course. The training methodology uses a complete learning system with well-defined objectives achieved through lectures, case studies, competitions, discussion sessions, group exercises, and sharing sessions.
